 Improvements in the works or scheduled for the winter of
2007/2008 in response to many of the comments from our TripAdvisor visitors, and also from our other guests:Alpine Trail Ridge Inn - ImprovementsThe motel is definitely an older property, well maintained but in need of some coordination and upgrades in furniture, artwork, parking and landscaping. There are a lot of amenities in the rooms, but there are always areas for improvement. As a seasonal business, we are limited in the amount we can put forth each year for upgrading, as opposed to what a property in a year-around business location can do.
Here are some of our plans for next year:
1. Beds in the center building (completed September 2007): We accelerated our plans and replaced all of the beds in our Western rooms in early September and early October 2007, instead of waiting until 2008.  Old Center Building Landscaping  New Center Building Landscaping  New Center Building Landscaping 5.Improved ceiling lighting in the Center Building: We are replacing the older style glass panel lights with new more contemporary lights, which updates the feeling of the room and removes a potential safety hazard.  Old Center Building Fixture  New Center Building Fixture 6. There will be many more things we will be doing as the summer progresses, which remain to be determined. Primarily it will be to determine what is "dating" us and work to upgrade those features. We greatly appreciate the input from our guests because that is how we find out what is needed from the guest's viewpoint.

We are rated highly in TripAdvisor because of our service, friendliness, cleaniness and location. Our motel is not a relatively new fancy property, but rather an older property which is well maintained, extremely clean, and we have a friendly and helpful staff. There are many, many positive reviews, but we have had a few people this year who felt we were over-rated from so many positive reviews.

It may be that because of the positive reviews, we are attracting a different type of traveller, one who is used to the newer 3, 4, and 5 star properties. I keep emphasizing what we really are and strive to undersell, not oversell the property. |
Below is one of my responses I posted on TripAdvisor this summer which sums up the situation from our perspective: |
"There is a pattern which I see developing with the less than positive reviews. It is a matter of what type of lodging a person is used to staying in. If they normally stay in the newer 3 to 4 star chain motels, they will be used to the newer architecture with larger rooms, furnishings only a few years old, and from my experience, no balconies or parking by the rooms. Almost every motel is by the highway somewhere, and I have experienced the same traffic noise at every motel I have stayed in along a major highway. If a traveller is used to staying in 3 Star and above lodging, they should stick with those ratings and pass us by. Otherwise, there is a mis-match between expectations and actuality, which results in a less than ideal stay. We are a high 2 Star rating with AAA. I have emphasized on our website that we are an older but well-maintained property, and talked about our location along the highway and the highway noise. We daily see people out on the balconies, on the deck by the office, or out by the pool. We also receive many compliments about our rooms on a daily basis. It just boils down to personal preferences, and no matter how hard we try, we are not going to be able to please everyone 100% and meet all their expectations. We apologize to those for whom we are not all that they expected, and we thank the many guests for whom we are more than they expected." |
We now have nice recliners in our 7 Balcony rooms with one King bed.
