The answer is…. No! The Estes Park Aerial Tramway closed briefly but has reopened and is ready to whisk you away on a thrilling ride through the stunning Rockies. After a brief closure, the tramway is now better than ever, promising an unforgettable experience for all visitors.
Why Did the Tramway Close?
In 2023, the tramway closed following the death of John Heron, the son of the tramway’s original builder, Robert Heron. John had dedicated his life to maintaining and operating the tramway, but his passing left the family struggling to continue the business. Faced with this challenging situation, the Heron family decided to sell the property rather than keep it running themselves.
The Tramway Reopens
Fortunately, new ownership saw the potential and historical value of this cherished landmark. After several months of renovations and upgrades, the iconic tramway reopened on May 25, 2024.
What’s New?
The new owners are also making substantial improvements to the property, including enhancements to the interior of the cafe and gift shop at the mountain’s summit. Additionally, a new online ticketing system has been introduced to help manage timed entries, ensuring a smoother and more efficient experience for visitors.
What to Expect When Taking the Tramway
Your adventure begins at the tramway’s base station, where you’ll be greeted by friendly staff ready to ensure your trip is as enjoyable as possible. As you step into the cabin, you’ll immediately notice the improved comfort and visibility. The ride to the top is a breathtaking experience, with awe-inspiring views unfolding before your eyes.
Once you reach the summit, you’ll find a wealth of activities and attractions. The observation deck offers unbeatable 360-degree views, perfect for capturing those Instagram-worthy shots. Don’t forget to visit the Summit Gift Shop, where you can find unique souvenirs to remember your trip.
Wildlife sightings are common, so keep your eyes peeled for elk, deer, and various bird species. If you’re a fan of photography, the summit offers countless opportunities to capture the natural beauty of Estes Park.
