The month of May is a pleasant time for a getaway to the mountains. As spring arrives, the weather in the town of Estes Park can range from crystal blue skies to a blanket of snow, which often melts by noon. While much of the high country elevations of 10,000 feet and above are still buried, evidence of the thaw can be seen in streams of water flowing from beneath the snow. Although trails such as Gem Lake, with great views of Longs Peak and the Estes Valley, are likely to be snow free, many trails taking off from the popular Bear Lake will have plenty of snow for a snowshoeing adventure. Snowshoeing is one of the most popular attractions during this time of the year.
Shops and restaurants are open in the town of Estes Park throughout the year. Be sure to have some great meals and look for unique finds during your getaway.
