How to Use Rocky Mountain National Park’s Timed Entry System 2026

Planning a mountain day from Estes Park should feel exciting—not confusing. The Rocky Mountain National Park timed-entry system 2026 is straightforward once you choose the correct reservation, understand your arrival window, and plan around parking and shuttles.

Choose the Right Reservation

There are two options for 2026.

Timed Entry covers Trail Ridge Road, Alpine Visitor Center, Wild Basin, Lily Lake, and park destinations outside the Bear Lake Road Corridor. It is required from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 22 through October 12, 2026.

Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road includes the entire park plus Bear Lake, Glacier Gorge, Sprague Lake, and Moraine Park. It is required for corridor entry from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., May 22 through October 18, 2026.

Reserve through Recreation.gov.

Understand Your Entry Window

Each reservation gives your vehicle a designated two-hour arrival window. Enter during that period, then stay in the park as long as you wish.

A reservation does not guarantee parking at Bear Lake or another popular trailhead. Save the confirmation offline, bring photo identification, and allow extra time for entrance-station lines.

Know When Reservations Are Released

Advance reservations open at 8 a.m. MDT:

  • May 1 for May 22 through June 30
  • June 1 for July
  • July 1 for August
  • August 1 for September
  • September 1 for October

Additional reservations are released at 7 p.m. MDT the evening before each visit. Popular windows can disappear quickly, so create your Recreation.gov account before booking day.

Bring a Separate Park Pass

Timed entry is not admission. You also need a valid Rocky Mountain National Park entrance pass, RMNP annual pass, or qualifying America the Beautiful pass.

The park offers one-day and seven-day vehicle passes, and entrance stations generally use cashless payment.

Use the Shuttles Strategically

For Bear Lake Road, park at Park & Ride and use the free Bear Lake or Moraine Park shuttles. The Bear Lake route runs every 10–15 minutes, while the Moraine Park route runs about hourly.

Guests staying in Estes Park can reserve the Hiker Shuttle from the Estes Park Visitor Center. Pack food, water, layers, and rain gear because there are no stores or food services in the Bear Lake Road Corridor.

Leave Estes Park 45–60 minutes before your window, park once, and let the shuttles handle the busiest trailhead traffic.
