Our Favorite Winter Activities in Estes Park

Lake Estes and Estes Park in winter with the snowcapped Rocky Mountains of Colorado in the background.

Colorado is known for being a haven for fun winter outdoor recreation. Once the snow begins falling in the Rocky Mountains, visitors love to vacation here for fun in our winter wonderland. Estes Park is home to the grand Rocky Mountain National Park and provides a new opportunity for winter fun, such as snowshoeing, ice-fishing, and snowmobiling. Not only can you have fun in the mountains, but also in Estes Park! Our small Rocky Mountains town’s charm really comes to life when it snows. So, get ready to bundle up and discover the best winter activities in Estes Park!

Historical Sightseeing

Not only is Estes Park home to beautiful views of the Rocky Mountains, but spots filled with rich historical beauty. There are many museums and historic sites in Estes Park to visit during the winter, all with a fascinating history to learn about our mountain town. The Chapel on the Rock is 10 miles away from Estes Park and is another unique landmark surrounded by mountains. The chapel is quite a sight to see during the winter. The beauty of the chapel’s medieval and roman architecture stands out surrounded by the snow and mountains!

Fun in the Snow

While snowshoeing and snowmobiling always guarantee adventure in the snow, we also enjoy some more simple fun! Estes Park is always blanketed with snow during the winter and makes a terrific playground for the entire family. Build a snowman and challenge your family to a snowball fight; so much is waiting for you!

A Winter Bike Ride

Some of the typically busy roads and trails of Estes Park remain open during the wintertime! You can leisurely ride through areas like the Lake Estes Bike Path and even more scenic places like the Devil’s Gulch and Dry Gulch.

Estes Park Winter Dining

After a long day of winter fun, you’ve probably worked up quite an appetite. Plenty of delicious cuisines are served in Estes Park, and we know just the place for a hearty winter meal! Bird & Jim serves deliciously curated farm-to-table plates. Their menu changes each season, and each dish is incredibly delicious.
